Bicyclist Suffers Serious Injury near Lake Mead, Nellis

A bicyclist suffered possible life-threatening injuries this morning after being struck by an SUV near the intersection of Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards. According to the police report, a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer was westbound on Lake Mead Boulevard in the outside travel lane. The bicyclist was eastbound on the north side of Lake Mead Boulevard on the sidewalk.

The driver of the 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Reva Hornback, 60, of Las Vegas, failed to maintain her travel lane and drove onto the north sidewalk and struck the bicyclist.

The 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer continued westbound and struck a NV Energy utility pole on the northwest corner of the intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard and Ringe Lane. The pole was sheared off at the base from the force of the collision.

The bicyclist, later identified as Lenny Sanchez, 28, of Las Vegas, was transported to UMC Trauma with serious injuries. Hornback was transported to UMC Trauma with minor injuries.
