Nursing homes that accept Medicare and Medicaid must comply with the federal Nursing Home Reform Act, which guarantees residents the right to be free from abuse and neglect and to receive care that maintains their highest practicable well-being. Nevada additionally licenses and inspects facilities (NRS Chapter 449) and provides civil remedies for the abuse and neglect of vulnerable persons (NRS 41.1395), which in proven cases can allow recovery of double damages and attorney’s fees.
